Ogun Reconstitutes Awujale Interregnum Council, Names Adesanya Chairman and Okunowo Secretary

The Ogun State Government has reconstituted the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council (AIAC), which oversees Ijebuland’s administrative and traditional affairs until a new Awujale is appointed and crowned. It says the withdrawal of some members does not invalidate the council and notes that Chris Okunowo and Rasheed Adeoye Adesanya, the Olisa of Ijebu-Ode, distanced themselves from the reported mass withdrawal. The government says the Adele Oba Awujale group has no legal or customary recognition and cites an unappealed consent judgment by the Ogun State High Court affirming the AIAC’s authority.
