Paul Biya paid tribute to Senegalese writer and former statesman Cheikh Hamidou Kane, who died on October 3, 2026, in Dakar, through a telegram to Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, praising his literary and cultural legacy. He did not, however, publicly acknowledge the death of Clément Atangana, former president of the Cameroonian Constitutional Council, who died on October 4 in Paris at age 85. Atangana had held several judicial positions and was appointed head of the Constitutional Council in 2018.
