Phone Traders Urge FG and NCC to Suspend Registration Fees for 90 Days

The Association of Mobile Phones and Allied Products Traders of Nigeria (AMPATN) has urged the Federal Government and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to suspend phone registration fees and blocking measures for 90 days. Speaking in Kano, national president Sani Tasi’u Ibrahim, represented by Jamilu Bala Gama, said traders were being charged about 670 naira for small phones and nearly 4,000 naira for larger devices, potentially raising prices and threatening jobs. AMPATN supports phone registration but wants the legal basis and a transparent fee schedule published, with consultations and an appeal process for mistakenly blocked devices. The association says it has petitioned the NCC, the Senate, the House of Representatives and the Kano State Government.

The assistance is part of a 2026–2030 cooperation programme worth nearly $100 million, and the fair also saw the launch of SIKA Local, focused on local investment and the green transition.
