Nigeria’s first Ebola case is ‘highly similar’ to Kenya’s, minister says

Nigeria’s Health Minister Muhammad Ali Pate said genomic tests show the country’s first Ebola case is closely related to Kenya’s index case. The patient, the wife of a staff member at Switzerland’s embassy in Abuja, returned from Uganda on October 3 and had not travelled to the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to Switzerland’s foreign ministry. Authorities have found no travel link between the two cases, although both patients flew from Uganda on the same day. Nigeria is the fourth African country affected by the Bundibugyo outbreak, which had exceeded 9,700 confirmed cases and 4,690 deaths by October 20, according to the WHO.
