Prince Epenge’s Arrest: His Party Denounces a “Political Abduction” and Demands His Release

ADDCongo, a member of the opposition coalition Lamuka, says its president, Prince Epenge, was arrested on Sunday, October 25, by unidentified individuals at N’djili Airport as he was preparing to travel to Rome for a meeting of the Article 64 Coalition (C64). The party’s deputy secretary-general, Bienvenu Mokabi, says his whereabouts are unknown and demands his immediate release and the return of his passport and personal belongings. ADDCongo says Epenge, who is reportedly ill, was denied his essential medication and calls for his physical and psychological safety, as well as intervention by international and human rights organizations. The authorities and the General Directorate of Migration had not responded, and the circumstances of the arrest remained unclear.
