Propak Cape 2026 seminar programme brings packaging industry insights to Cape Town

The Institute of Packaging SA (IPSA) will host a free seminar programme alongside Propak Cape 2026, taking place from 27 to 29 October at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Specialists will discuss sustainability, recyclability, the circular economy, Extended Producer Responsibility, food safety and production efficiency. Bill Marshall will present trends from the 2026 Gold Pack Awards, while Edwin Botha, Masale Manoko, Manuel Cortizo and Sascha Skora will cover sustainable design, recycling and packaging innovations.

Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront plans a new EDITION hotel and superyacht facilities at Quay 7 to attract more international private yachts. BOATPro research presented at the conference put the average visiting yacht length in the region at 60 metres, compared with about 34 metres globally. A superyacht worth $50 million could generate between $105,000 and $330,000 in local spending during a two-week visit.

Food, Floods and Erosion: 16,140 Households Targeted by 5,380 Tubewells, Dams and Irrigation Projects in Kano

The federal government is carrying out flood and erosion control, rural road improvements and irrigation projects across Kano State to help farmers grow crops throughout the year. Implemented by the Ecological Project Office under Permanent Secretary Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, the work includes tubewells, pumps, bridges, culverts and canals linked to the Tiga, Challawa-Gorge and Kafin Chiri dams. A watershed management programme plans to provide 5,380 tubewells and an equal number of pumps for 16,140 households. The Ecological Project Office reports an average project completion rate of 99.7 per cent.
