Protests spread across France as ‘yellow vests’ set to join

Protests that began in mid-September at a high school in Créteil over dilapidated buildings, overcrowded classrooms, teacher shortages and educational inequality have spread to thousands of schools across France. Teachers, trade unions and university students have joined the movement amid fiscal pressures, economic stagnation and growing social discontent. Yellow vest activists, including Jérôme Rodrigues, urged supporters to demonstrate alongside students and workers on Saturday. Authorities say more than 900 police officers have been injured since the protests began, as France waits to see whether the calls will produce a large, coordinated mobilisation.
