Edo: Four kidnappers, including a woman, sentenced to death after CCTV-captured abduction

Four people — Marvelous Isaac, Wisdom Michael, Rufus Emete Michael and Gift Rachael — were sentenced to death by hanging or lethal injection for the Vegetable Market kidnapping in Edo, three other abductions and membership in a secret cult. On June 14, 2026, kidnappers abducted a woman after shooting the tyres of her husband’s Toyota Highlander near Airport Road; CCTV captured the incident. Justice A. T. Momodu delivered the verdict on September 29 and praised the surveillance footage for helping police establish the crime. Governor Monday Okpebholo had strengthened laws against kidnapping and cult activity, including the death penalty for convicted kidnappers.
