Saudi Arabia security puts Asian Cup in doubt: Japan football chief

Tsuneyasu Miyamoto, president of the Japan Football Association, said the security situation in Saudi Arabia makes it difficult to hold the 2027 Asian Cup as scheduled from January 7 to February 5. His concerns come as escalating attacks by Iran-backed Houthis have led to the cancellation or postponement of several major sporting events in the country. Miyamoto said Saudi officials had made the safety of players and fans their priority and would consult the Asian Football Confederation on whether the tournament could proceed. The local organising committee says preparations remain on schedule, although a postponement until 2028 remains a possibility.
