SDP accuses Niger State government of keeping armoured vehicles at Government House amid insecurity

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Niger State accused Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of prioritising his 2027 re-election bid over residents’ safety as attacks and kidnappings rise. Spokesperson Johnathan Vatsa alleged that armoured personnel carriers bought by the state government have remained at Government House for more than two years instead of being provided to security agencies. The accusations followed the reported abduction of 50 pupils from an Islamic school in Maikujeri, Rafi Local Government Area, and their teacher while they were working on a farm. The SDP urged the governor to release the vehicles and take concrete steps to protect residents.
