Senate seeks troop deployment after gunmen kill 113 people in Benue

Nigeria’s Senate urged the federal government to immediately deploy troops to the Ukum, Katsina-Ala and Logo local government areas of Benue State after four attacks killed 113 people. Senator Emmanuel Udende said 24 people were killed in Sai, 63 in Bom and Aboajio, 15 in Ayilamo—including six Mobile Police personnel—and 11 in Tse Biliji and Tse Shishi Nyako. He warned that the violence has disrupted farming and economic activity and caused mass displacement. The Senate called for coordinated security operations, early-warning systems, justice for the perpetrators and relief for displaced residents.

He said politically unaffiliated voters—the “floaters party”—could influence the 2027 presidential election.
