At least six soldiers, including a major, and scores of suspected Boko Haram or ISWAP fighters were feared dead after an ambush on a military convoy near Kanamma in Yobe State. The attack took place around 4 p.m. on Monday: an explosive device struck the lead vehicle before attackers opened fire, and the toll among the fighters could not be independently verified. The Geidam-Kanamma and Mayamti routes have reportedly been closed for months because of terrorist activity. Separately, troops from the Nigerian Army’s 27 Task Force Brigade arrested a suspected terrorist collaborator in Kanamma on October 17.
