Femi Gbajabiamila, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s chief of staff and chair of the Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill, said 24 state assemblies had approved the Constitution Sixth Alteration Bill, 2026. The amendment proposes a dual policing system and has reached the required two-thirds threshold among Nigeria’s 36 states. It can now return to the National Assembly before being sent to Tinubu for assent under Section 9 of the Constitution. Draft policing bills are under review at the Federal Ministry of Justice and are expected back by October 30, 2026.
