The State Police Bill will be transmitted to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday for assent, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu said. The constitutional amendment has been approved by 29 of the country’s 36 state assemblies, surpassing the required two-thirds threshold. It would allow states to establish and manage their own police forces while the federal government retains its force. Supporters say decentralised policing could improve intelligence gathering and responses to local security challenges.
