Storm over October 29 violence anniversary in Tanzania

As the first anniversary of the violence surrounding Tanzania’s October 29, 2025 general election approaches, activists, religious groups and victims’ families continue to seek answers from the government. They have called for a national day of remembrance, church-led memorial services and renewed investigations. Security agencies have not approved the commemorations or other remembrance gatherings planned ahead of Thursday.
