Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar accused the Federal Government of reckless borrowing despite a surge in oil revenue. Between January and August 2026, the government borrowed ₦24.7 trillion, a 90.5% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Atiku emphasized that this situation harms Nigerian businesses, as credit to the government grew by 43%, while credit to the private sector only increased by 9.6%.
