Togo and AES Countries Move Toward Harmonizing University Education and Research

Togo and the Alliance of Sahel States countries met in Ouagadougou on October 13, 2026, to consider frameworks for bringing their higher education and research systems closer together. The discussions aim to ease student and academic mobility, diploma recognition, and scientific cooperation, identifying six priority training fields and five areas of research collaboration. Work also covers quality assurance, academic governance, and cooperation agreements in mining and oil. The initiative could address strategic skills needs, but will depend on adopting and implementing the proposed rules and funding laboratories and joint programs.
