True democracy must be people-centred, says Osinbajo

In Yola, former Nigerian Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said lasting democracy must be participatory, accountable and centred on citizens’ needs. He linked low public satisfaction with democracy in Africa to economic inequality and poor living conditions, urging leaders to address hardship and corruption. Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas defended democratic freedoms and citizens’ right to question leaders, while Governor Ahmadu Fintiri announced plans to establish a foundation offering scholarships and other support to vulnerable people after leaving office. The lecture, held for Fintiri’s 59th birthday, also stressed the importance of communication between government and citizens.
