Beninese Pineapples: First Shipments to China Announced Before the End of 2026

The first fresh Beninese pineapples could be shipped to China before the end of 2026, according to the PACOFIDE project. The goal is to export 12,000 tons of pineapples in 2026, up from 2,700 tons in 2023, due to improvements in quality and availability of planting material. Benin produces about 450,000 tons of pineapples annually, representing 1.2% of the national GDP. A cold chain and a fruit terminal at Cotonou airport are planned to enhance the preservation and transport of the fruits.
