US congressional candidate Brad Lander freed after West Bank detention

Brad Lander, a Democratic US congressional candidate and former New York City comptroller, says he was released from Israeli military custody with a warning after being detained in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday. He was among about 80 volunteers held near Nahalin, outside Bethlehem, while accompanying Palestinian farmers harvesting olives. According to Israeli group Rabbis for Human Rights, Israeli forces told the group it was in a closed military zone and took the volunteers to a police station. Lander says several dozen people, including rabbis and international volunteers, remain in detention and has called for their immediate release.
