US petrol prices dip ahead of midterms as voters eye costs

The average US price for regular petrol was $4.17 per gallon on Monday, down 12 cents from a week earlier and 23 cents from a month earlier, according to AAA. Prices remain above the $3.04 recorded a year ago and the $2.98 seen on February 28, when the US and Israel first struck Iran. Falling oil prices amid diplomatic efforts to end the war could push the national petrol average below $4 a gallon next week, GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan said. With midterm elections one day away, the cost of living remains a priority for voters, and the average petrol price during Donald Trump’s second term is set to exceed the $3.46 record under Joe Biden.
