A federal court in Boston has begun hearing the case of Eric Nshimiye, a 55-year-old Rwandan-American accused of covering up his role in the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Prosecutors allege he participated in the genocidal violence against Tutsis, which resulted in over 800,000 deaths over about 100 days. Nshimiye, then a medical student, is accused of having taken part in killings and rapes, and of lying in a 2019 testimony, leading to charges of perjury and obstruction of justice.
