Meters and Households: Towards Equitable Social Tariffs in Senegal

The Harmonized Survey on Household Living Conditions (EHCVM) 2021-2022 reveals that 66.4% of households with 20 or more people live in poverty in Senegal. The tiered pricing system, although designed to preserve essential needs, does not account for household size, which can penalize larger families. Statistics show that the incidence of poverty increases with household size, making it necessary to revise the pricing system for greater fairness.
