WAEC: 56,000 candidates register for 2026 private WASSCE

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says 56,000 candidates registered for the second series of the 2026 WASSCE for private candidates, including about 272 walk-ins seeking to retake individual subjects. More than 22,000 candidates are sitting the examination in Lagos, including around 50 walk-ins. WAEC National Office Head Suleiman Kum says computer-based testing, introduced in 2024, has substantially reduced malpractice while improving examination security and transparency. He urged candidates to study diligently, practise past questions and marking schemes, and read chief examiners’ reports.
