Will the EU come to Ukraine’s rescue in its war against Russia?

Relations between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have deteriorated further ahead of the US midterm elections. Zelenskyy criticised an agreement between Washington and Moscow, while Trump accused him of failing to abide by an “energy ceasefire” Trump had announced unilaterally. Because US military assistance is critical to Ukraine’s defence, the dispute puts that support at risk and is driving Kyiv to rely more on the European Union. Zelenskyy has asked Brussels for additional air defences, raising the question of whether the bloc will provide them.
