Xhaka and Embolo return to Swiss squad after fake COVID documents affair

The Swiss Football Association said Granit Xhaka and Breel Embolo are eligible for selection for November’s Nations League matches after being sanctioned for using forged COVID-19 documents. The pair missed Switzerland’s first four matches in September and October while facing the consequences of the cases and legal proceedings. Xhaka, Switzerland’s record holder with 152 caps, will remain captain after a unanimous decision by coach Murat Yakin, his staff and the players’ council. Switzerland lead their group with four wins and will announce the squad on November 5 before travelling to face Slovenia on November 13.
