DR Congo suspends 72 organizations over mismanagement of Ebola funds

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has suspended 72 organizations involved in the Ebola response for failing to account for their spending. Health Minister Roger Kamba Kamba said only 25 of 97 implementing structures met accreditation requirements, while Africa CDC Director General Jean Kaseya reported that nearly $962 million had been disbursed directly to international institutions and NGOs. Authorities now require partners to demonstrate that funds are traceable and properly used as the outbreak has caused more than 4,400 deaths among about 9,100 confirmed cases. Violence in the east has displaced more than 26,000 people in North and South Kivu and is obstructing humanitarian access and the Ebola response.
