"You Ivorians have nothing in your own country": calls for an investigation after a video of insults

A viral video shows a man on a bus, described as a Nigerien national, insulting Ivorians and Côte d’Ivoire, saying, among other things, that the Hausa have more money than Ivorians. The cause of the argument and the accuracy of the claims have yet to be established. On October 28, 2026, politician Assalé Tiémoko called on the Interior Ministry to investigate, establish when and where the video was filmed, identify the man, verify the context, and determine his nationality. He said the limited public outrage over the clip points to a worrying erosion of national identity in Côte d’Ivoire.
