Zimbabwe - Opposition Activist Acquitted, Freed After 7 Months

A Zimbabwe court on June 3, 2026, acquitted and released opposition activist Godfrey Chidhau Karembera, known as 'Madzibaba Veshanduko', after over seven months in detention on baseless charges. He was arrested on October 20, 2025, for distributing fliers for the 'One Million Men March' protest against the Mnangagwa administration. Human Rights Watch said the case highlights the weaponization of the criminal justice system by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
