As Israel's war on Lebanon passes the 100-day mark, the partnership between the two main Shia blocs, the Amal Movement and Hezbollah, appears firm. Led by Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Amal has historically been the key domestic ally of Iran-backed Hezbollah. However, parallel negotiations between the US and Iran on one hand, and Israel and Lebanon on the other, could affect Iranian support for Hezbollah. Analyst Souhayb Jawhar says if Hezbollah's role declines, Amal's position will likely be strengthened in managing the relationship between the Shia community and the state.
