Pakistan rights activist Imaan Mazari and husband jailed for 10 years

A Pakistani antiterrorism court sentenced human rights lawyers Imaan Mazari and her husband, Hadi Ali Chattha, to 10 years in prison on terrorism-related charges. Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra announced the verdict on Thursday after a trial held inside Adiala prison in Rawalpindi. The case concerns the couple’s removal of road barriers in Islamabad in October 2024 along a route designated for the touring England cricket team; they pleaded not guilty and say they were targeted for their human rights work. Imaan’s mother, Shireen Mazari, called the proceedings a sham trial and said the couple could not use their own lawyer or access key legal documents.
