Mexico’s Sinaloa state governor resigns amid US drug trafficking charges

Ruben Rocha Moya, the governor of Sinaloa state, has temporarily resigned after being charged by US authorities with drug trafficking. In a video statement, he denied any wrongdoing and stated he would take leave to defend himself against the allegations. The indictment claims that Rocha Moya and nine other officials aided the Sinaloa cartel in exchange for political support and bribes, including threats against opposition candidates during the 2021 elections.
