2027 timetable could trigger crisis — Gbenga Hashim warns INEC

Former presidential candidate Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim warned that the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 general elections could heighten political tensions and destabilize party structures. He criticized the schedule as unlawful and insensitive to Nigeria's political and religious realities, particularly the scheduling of party primaries during sensitive religious periods like Hajj and Ileya. Hashim also disclosed that he had previously written an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging intervention to ensure INEC complies with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
