Uganda tightens border controls to fight Ebola

Uganda is requiring citizens returning from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to undergo a 21-day quarantine at their own expense. Announced Sunday by the Health Ministry, the measure comes with stepped-up screening at Entebbe airport, border posts and some road checkpoints. Health Minister Chris Baryomunsi says Uganda remains Ebola-free; the WHO declared the country free of the virus in August after an outbreak that caused 20 cases and two deaths. The DRC has reported more than 4,600 deaths since May, while Kampala rejects a link to Nigeria’s first detected case, in a woman who arrived on a flight from Uganda.
