Nairobi set to be Africa’s largest megacity by 2050

According to Africapolis (OECD) projections, Nairobi's population will reach 57.2 million by 2050, surpassing Cairo (55.5 million) and Lagos (36.9 million). This massive urban growth will strain infrastructure, housing, and employment. African urbanization has not delivered the same economic dividends as Asia or Latin America, with average income per capita of only $1,500 when 40% of the population lives in urban areas. African governments spent just $27 per person annually on infrastructure between 2014 and 2020.
