Patrick Mengue was released on Saturday, October 24, 2026, after serving six months at Kondengui Central Prison in Yaoundé. He had been detained since April 24 over a Facebook comment posted on April 11 beneath an announcement of the death of Marcel Niat Njifenji, the former Senate president. Mengue says the eleven words in his comment were a prayer. His release has not closed the questions the case raises about freedom of expression in Cameroon.
