Guinea-Bissau Presidential Election: Embaló Announces Candidacy After Ten Months in Exile

Umaro Sissoco Embaló, former president of Guinea-Bissau, announced his upcoming return as a candidate in the December 6 presidential election, after being ousted in a coup on November 26, 2025. Exiled in Morocco, he is set to return on October 4, as the country has adopted a new constitution establishing a strong presidential regime, which bans General N’Tam from running. The opposition, including Domingos Simões Pereira, fears the process is being manipulated to favor Embaló’s return to power.
