Diomaye Faye to speak tomorrow in Le Soleil, after Sonko’s budget threat

President Bassirou Diomaye Faye is scheduled to give an exclusive interview to the daily Le Soleil on October 21, 2026, as political tensions over the budgets mount. The interview’s contents are unknown, and there is no confirmation that Faye will respond directly to Sonko.

Sonko also criticizes the debt restructuring and accuses the government of undermining his Economic and Social Recovery Plan, which he says generated 312 billion CFA francs. Agreement on prices and special funds could ease tensions and pave the way for reconciliation with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
