Embattled Palestinian president of Oxford Union: ‘I’m not resigning’

Arwa Elrayess, the first Palestinian president of the Oxford Union, faces a no-confidence motion after text messages were quoted in outlets like The Telegraph and BBC saying she called the Hamas-led incursion on October 7, 2023 'proportional' and that groups branded terrorists are often later lauded as heroes. She responded that Palestinians are always vilified and that she will not resign. Student Ben Ashworth accused her of contributing to an atmosphere of hostility and harassment. Elrayess denies making any statement of support for Hamas.
