Karl Bushby returns home after 28-year walk around the world

British adventurer Karl Bushby, 57, has returned to Hull after a 28-year, roughly 50,000-kilometre journey around the world, advancing without motorised transport. He set off from Punta Arenas, Chile, in November 1998 and travelled through the Americas, across the Bering Strait, Russia, Mongolia and China, swimming the Caspian Sea and later the English Channel. Visa restrictions, detention in Russia and funding setbacks extended the expedition, which he had initially expected to take about 12 years. His mother Angela and hundreds of supporters welcomed him home; a feature-length documentary is in production and he is expected to begin a speaking tour.
