2027: Akume’s allies reject Alia’s campaign council as Benue power struggle deepens

The Benue Strategic Alliance for Tinubu 2027, a group associated with Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, rejected the roughly 500-member campaign council announced by APC state organising secretary James Ornguga. The group said its conveners, including Jack Tilley-Gyado and Simon Shango, and its candidates for the national and state assemblies were listed without authorisation. It also objected to Governor Hyacinth Alia chairing the council while Akume was listed only as a member, and accused Alia’s administration of sidelining established party structures since the 2023 elections. The alliance said it remains committed to mobilising support for Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election and for APC candidates recognised by Akume.

At the forum’s 2026 National Youth Day celebration, coordinator Olamide Odumosu urged critics, including Deji Adeyanju, to support their claims with verifiable evidence and pursue constructive engagement. The forum credited Audi with improvements in professionalism and operational capacity, including protecting oil and gas facilities, electricity installations and telecommunications infrastructure. It also urged young Nigerians to support security agencies and endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

2026 Amended Finance Bill: Former Minister Abdourahmane Sarr responds to Parliament's rejection

After the National Assembly rejected the 2026 amended finance bill, former Economy Minister Abdourahmane Sarr praised the democratic debate in a post on X on November 3. He called for a credible financing strategy and greater transparency in public finances, saying Senegal should establish the true state of its economy through its own institutions. Sarr challenged the bill’s public investment forecast: after 1,031 billion CFA francs had been executed by the end of September 2026, reaching the projected 2,249 billion would require spending 1,218 billion in the final three months. He added that the IMF does not represent the interests of the Senegalese people, a responsibility he said belongs to national institutions.
