UN: Diomaye and Sonko Gave a New Boost to Macky Sall

Macky Sall's candidacy for UN Secretary-General gained new momentum following the rift between Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko. Regional consultations led by Umaro Sissoco Embaló, a close associate of Sall, were held with Senegalese President Diomaye Faye and Gambian President Adama Barrow on July 7. According to journalist Madiambal Diagne, Sonko's opposition, as Prime Minister, was the main obstacle to Dakar's support, while Diomaye Faye was in favor but unwilling to jeopardize his relationship with Pastef.
