8 foreign nationals arrested for staging abduction, ransom fraud in Ogun

Eight foreign nationals, including seven men and one woman from Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Ivory Coast, and Benin, were arrested by Ogun State Police for staging a kidnapping to extort ransom from their families abroad. The purported victim, 23-year-old Mauritanian Cheik El-Mehdi, actively participated in the fake abduction. The operation took place in Adiyan Town, Agbado Area, following a report on June 6, 2026. The principal suspects have confessed, and investigations are ongoing.
