Northern Lebanon airport revival brings economic hope for the region

On June 6, 2026, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam landed at Rene Mouawad Airport in Qlayaat, marking the reopening of Lebanon's second airport. Flights to Dubai, Istanbul, and another Turkish city are planned. Israeli attacks delayed the project, killing 3,826 people and displacing 1.2 million since March. A ceasefire was announced this week, and the World Bank estimates $11bn needed for reconstruction.
