Burkina Faso: Récréâtrales festival turns streets into an open-air stage

In Ouagadougou, residents of the Bougsemtenga neighborhood are hosting performances for the 14th Récréâtrales festival, held from October 24 to 31. They have helped produce the festival since its creation and open their courtyards to performances. Since February, choreographer Djibril Ouattara has been working with local women and young people on “Les Mouches,” the opening show, drawing on their movements and skills. Agathe Serré, a member of the Bougsemtenga women’s association and an amateur actor, has performed at the festival since 2006.
