South Africa has officially launched the production of lenacapavir, an injectable HIV prevention drug taken twice a year. President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the launch at Lilian-Ngoyi Stadium in Secunda, Mpumalanga province, calling it a turning point in the fight against HIV, moving from denial to treatment to elimination. The deployment comes about a year and a half after US aid cuts affected HIV programs in the country, which is the most HIV-affected in the world.
