Over 16,000 obsolete weapons destroyed since inception – Arms Control Centre

The National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) has destroyed over 16,000 obsolete and unserviceable weapons since its inception. Director-General Johnson Babatunde Kokumo disclosed that 11,907 of these weapons came from the Nigeria Police Force, including 8,438 automatic firearms and 3,489 locally fabricated guns. Kokumo highlighted that illicit arms proliferation, fueled by porous borders and local manufacturing, poses a major security challenge. Inspector-General of Police Kayode Disu called for stricter armoury management and enhanced collaboration.
