UNILORIN loses ex-VC, Ambali, Emir mourns

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, announced the death of the 9th Vice Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, who died earlier on Saturday, June 6, 2026 after a brief illness at age 68. Ambali, who led the university from 2012 to 2017, also served as Pro-Chancellor of Kwara State University. The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, expressed deep sorrow, praising him as an erudite scholar and accomplished administrator. The Janazah prayer will be held at 4pm at his Oloje Housing Estate residence in Ilorin.
