Dr. Muyembe calls on the Government to strengthen the health surveillance system

The director of the National Institute of Biomedical Research, Dr. Jean-Jacques Muyembe, urged the Congolese Government to enhance the disease surveillance system for quicker epidemic detection, especially in Ituri. He emphasized that the delay in identifying the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus complicated the response. Dr. Muyembe attributed this situation to insecurity, the closure of health facilities, lack of funding, and the absence of operational laboratories.
