DR Congo: Kinshasa welcomes US sanctions against Rwanda’s Defence Ministry and Zigama bank

The Congolese Foreign Ministry welcomed US Treasury sanctions against Rwanda’s Defence Ministry and Zigama Credit and Savings Society, which are accused of contributing to the AFC/M23’s aggression against DR Congo with support from Rwandan forces. Kinshasa says the measures corroborate UN experts’ findings and maintains that the M23 remains armed and funded from Kigali. The Congolese government denounced what it considers insufficient international pressure and urged states, international organizations, business partners, sports sponsors and investors to reconsider their ties with Rwanda. It also reaffirmed its commitment to neutralizing the FDLR, saying more than 800 people, including fighters and their dependents, had surrendered since January 2025.
